Reed Connection Quartet & Dimitry Shishkin
The underlying idea behind the Reed Connection ensemble, formed in 2008, is the desire to play together and to popularise chamber music scored for wind instruments in various combinations.
As musicians perform in various formations - trios, quartets and quintets - diverse repertoire arrangements are possible.
Musicians play with horn players Maciej Baranowski, Łukasz Łacny and José António de Abreu (Portugal).
The Mozart/Beethoven project premiered in 2010 together with Beata Bilińska, an outstanding Polish pianist.
Currently the artists perform with the pianist Dmitry Shishkin.
During the initial recital part we are treated to solo piano compositions by Alexander Scriabin, Nikolai Medtner and Frédéric Chopin, to name a few.
Two classical quintets are performed in the second part of the concert, composed for a rare combination of instruments - piano together with oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. The composer himself described the first piece in a letter to his father as the best thing he wrote to date. We are talking about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's quintet in E-flat Major KV 452 (1784), with a delightful, concerto movement for a piano engrossed in a dialogue with melodious sounds of wind instruments. The second - quintet in E-flat Major Op. 16 (1796) - composed a dozen or so years later by Ludwig van Beethoven also features a significant piano movement and is Beethoven's wonderful response, or even a counter to Mozart's piece, considered by many to be infinitely perfect.
